MIJAG
asks to see Harney's Plan B for lowering the cost of Insurance.
MIJAG
the Motor Insurance Justice Action Group has asked to see Mary Harney's
Plan B for lowering the cost of insurance in the event of the MIAB recommendations
failing. "The report just out by Peter Bacon argues that the Personal
Injury Assessment Board may drive up the cost of insurance. There may
be more than a grain of truth in this and we would like to know what Ms
Harney intends doing in the event of the MIAB recommendations failing"
said Mick Murphy the National Organiser of MIJAG. MIJAG has always been
sceptical about the affects of the MIAB report but argues for it to be
implemented in full by the end of this year. "The sooner it is implemented
the sooner we will see the results" added Mr Murphy. "Young
drivers insurance continues to increase with many now paying over €6,000.
Small businesses are closing down because of the insurance crisis and
the Government must explain what other action they are willing to take.
Price controls similar to the ones introduced on bread and milk in the
past must now be considered" Mr Murphy said. MIJAG has always demanded
that anyone with a clean driving record including beginners should not
have to pay over €1,000 for motor insurance.
