MIJAG Welcomes the Fine Gael Policy Document on Road Safety
MIJAG, the Motor Insurance Justice Action Group welcomes
the recent publication by Fine Gael of its Policy Document titled "Its
time to stop Ireland's Road Carnage". Campaign Organiser Mick Murphy said,
"We welcome the document which has some good ideas to improve road safety
and driver training for all drivers. More significantly this document
will increase the political pressure on the Government to tackle this
issue in a more serious way". "Unfortunately, one page (Page 8) of the
document contains the very significant facts that young drivers are on
average less than twice (97%) the average risk but often pay between £3000
and £4000 for insurance. Theses premiums are up to eight times the average
yet Fine Gael fails to recommend any action to end this Rip-Off" Mr Murphy
added. "MIJAG now calls on Fine Gael to organise a full Dáil Debate on
the issue of young drivers car insurance when the Dáil resumes in October"
Mr Murphy said.
