Dear MIJAG,
I am writng to you concerning the car insurance rip-off in Ireland. I
am 18 y.o.a with a provisional licence (driving test expected Feb/March
'01) living in south Dublin & trying to get a car on the road. I got a
quote from Quinn direct in Oct. '00 for a (as a named driver) 1988 Renault
21, 1.7 litre engine. I got (rather unsurprisingly) £4340 for an insurance
quote. You might say that the car is too big but it is in pristine condition
(no bull!) and even if i tried to sell it, it would take months due to
the huge number of 2nd hand cars on the market so It has been outside
my house for the last year & a half. I asked for a quote with a full licence
but they wouldnt quote me until I had it, for whatever reason.
I was disgusted by this absolute rip-off and that the fact that the government
is too cowardish to stand up & say "end this now". They could do it if
they wanted to, but of course why would they? its too easy.
Hopefully if I get this licence it might make a diffrence, but I have
been on the roads in a driving school car and having seeing some allegedly
"Fully licenced drivers", and looking at them they couldnt even drive
a nail let alone a car & theyre paying half what im paying?, its a real
injustice & theyre saying we cause all the accidents?, dont think so!
You have all my support now & in the future in this fight for fair deal
for young drivers.
Keep up the good work!
Yours sincerely,
.
P.S: I will keep you informed of any developments about my qoute with
a full licence
