MIJAG
Consider Running Canditate in General Election
The
MIJAG key campaign strategy is political in nature. We focus on putting
pressure on the Dáil to legislate to sort out the car insurance
system in this country for once and for all.
To
that end the campaign is opening up a debate about the possibility of
running a MIJAG candidate in the general election to be held in May. This
was discussed at length at the December general meeting of the campaign
and it was agreed to put the following proposal to our supporters before
a final decision is made at a further general meeting to be held in the
Abberley Court Hotel in Tallaght on Wednesday 30th of January at 8pm.
The
proposal being considered is:-
We
nominate David Green to run as
a Candidate in the new Mid West (Clondalkin/Lucan/Newcastle) Constituency
in Dublin. The Tanaiste Mary Harney is expected to run there also. David
is agreeing to put his name forward and is just over the minimum age required
(21 before date for close of nominations which is normally 10 day before
the election).
To
run a successful campaign we will need to raise at least 6,000 Euro and
will need at least 20 people out every night of the election campaign
over a three week period. The money will be needed to print posters, leaflets
and pay for newspaper advertising. Offers of printing will be accepted
also.
The
election will almost certainly be in May and we would be asking supporters
to take some time off work to get involved in an election campaign. The
constituency in question has 25,000 houses. Just to drop one leaflet into
each home would take 250 person/hours. At least two and maybe more leaflets
would have to be dropped.
Car
protests would be held on the last two Saturday's of the campaign through
the constituency.
The
election campaign would have to be run by a separate MIJAG election committee.
What
do we need you to do right now ??
Unless
we get a sufficient number of clear indications of active support for
this idea in advance we will not be going ahead as a poor campaign would
do us more harm than good. For example if we got 60 people to pledge 50
Euro each and agree to do a few nights leg work we could consider the
idea further.
Please
email at the address below if you support this idea and give a pledge
of money towards an election fund. Our Treasurer will get back on to you
with the campaign bank account details if we decide to go ahead with this.
Please indicate if you can be available for a few nights in May to drop
leaflets door to door and put up election posters.
